About the Class

Every invented world starts with a single decision. A city built under a dome. A society where monsters can only exist in written form. A map with a blank space in the middle that nobody talks about.

This class is about what you do next. We follow each creative choice through its consequences — political, ecological, linguistic, social — until the world starts to feel like somewhere that was always there, waiting to be discovered rather than invented. We work through maps, myths, architecture, economics, language, and the small details that make a place feel lived in.

The class moves at the pace of your world. No two sessions look exactly the same.

How It Works

The central question of this class isn't "what is your world?" It's "what does your world imply?" If people live under a dome, how do they think about the sky? If monsters can only exist in writing, who controls what gets written? If the economy runs on trade, what does everyone actually need — and what happens when the balance shifts?

We don't lack clarity about our worlds. We just don't have it yet. The class is a process of finding it, one question at a time.

Sessions combine creative exercises, close analysis of existing fictional worlds, and sustained work on the student's own project. You'll leave each session with more world than you came in with.

What We Explore

Maps, geography, and how physical space shapes culture and conflict

Invented languages, naming conventions, and how words carry history

Economics, politics, and the systems that make a world run (or fall apart)

Mythology, religion, and what a society believes about itself

Flora, fauna, and the strange logic of invented ecologies

How to build emotional depth and narrative tension into the world itself

Who It's For

Fantasy and science fiction writers who want to build more rigorously. RPG campaign designers who want their worlds to feel alive. Anyone who has an image or a premise they've been carrying around and doesn't quite know what to do with it yet.

No experience required. Just a world you want to explore.
